GrassTex was established in 1976. GrassTex first made outdoor carpet and artificial turf for residential applications. Dow urethane backing was developed in the 80's for carpet that required extra strength and durability. During those years, indoor soccer was coming into its own and the urethane backing found its place in history. GrassTex was right there during this development period. At that time the soccer arenas used a 48 ounce cut pile with a 25-30 ounce precoat and a 32-40 ounce urethane foam. The yarn system was usually a Polyloom 5700 denier. Direct glue down turf was the most popular type back then, but in the last 8 years the rubber filled system has made inroads into that type of application. GrassTex now has both types and a new Hybrid Turf that replicates the rubber filled.

GrassTex has changed to the new Hi-Tech turf system. This system highlights Nylon monofilament, Polypropylene monofilament and ultra-slick Polyethylene. The types of backings offered in the Hi-Tech turf system have also been refined. The Dow urethane system is available with several modifications, so you can use urethane engineered for any application. Now golf, football,baseball and landscape turf can benefit from the urethane system. Combine the monofilament yarns with the urethane secondaries and your Hi-Tech turf can be warranted for up to 8 years.
